John Porter was famous in his day as a racehorse trainer based in Kingsclere, but his most lasting legacy to Newbury is the racecourse he founded in 1905. Gareth will tell the story of the man and his racecourse.
The picture shows him in cartoon form drawn by ‘Lib’ (Liborio Prosperi) in 1889 – from the famous series printed in Vanity Fair.
