The large obelisk standing alongside the Andover Road in Wash Common commemorating the death of Lord Falkland at the 1st Battle of Newbury has stood there since it was erected by the Field Club in 1878. However, most passers by onw nothing of Lord Falkland or, indeed, the battle in which he died. Realising this Dave determined that an information panel should be erected close to the memorial so that the curious could learn a little more and understand why the memorial is there. Behind the relatively few words on the information panel is a lot of research - the benefit of which Dave will share with the Club through this talk.
