Slates, Copybooks & Measles: Schooling in 19th Century Berkshire

John Trigg

11 April 2014

2:30pm at Newbury Town Hall

Victorian schooling was very different from the modern experience. This talk will trace the trials and tribulations associated with the development of elementary schooling in Berkshire set against the background of national educational developments and legislation.

John Trigg has lived for the last 39 years in the Berkshire village of Woolhampton and during the past 17 years has attempted, through self-publishing, to place a knowledge of the history of Woolhampton and other areas of West Berkshire in the public domain. To date this has resulted in ten books, hopefully there will be many more in the years to come.
