The study of our history tends to concentrate on settlements and military exploits, but the countryside and, inparticular, our ancient woodlands have a lot to tell us about the ways our ancestors used the countryside to their benefit. A walk in the woods will never be that same again after hearing this talk!

Dick Greenaway spent thirty years as a surveyor with the Environment Agency and has a lifetime's involvement in woodland archaeology. His personal studies have concentrated on the woodlands of the Pang Valley.

He is the author of In the Valley of the Pang and Around the Valley of the Pang: An Exploration of the Pang Valley in West Berkshire.
